Wenn eindringliche Songs an der Schnittstelle zwischen Hard Rock und Melodic Metal auf das exzellente musikalische Können und die große Erfahrung aller beteiligten Musiker treffen, ist ein brillantes Ergebnis vorprogrammiert. UNITY sind ein Paradebeispiel dafür, alle musikalischen Parameter deuten auf einen herausragenden Act mit einer vielversprechenden Zukunft hin. Schließlich ist UNITY die neue Gruppe, die von den Gamma Ray-Mitgliedern Michael Ehré (Schlagzeug) und Henjo Richter (Gitarre) gegründet wurde. Richter ist seit rund zwanzig Jahren Teil der Hamburger Power-Metaller, während Ehré – bevor er 2012 zu Gamma Ray stieß – bereits bei namhaften Bands wie Firewind, Uli Jon Roth und Unisonic gespielt hat, um nur einige zu nennen. UNITY haben fast 18 Monate lang mit Hochdruck an ihrem ersten Album gearbeitet, das im Frühjahr 2017 auf Steamhammer/SPV erscheinen soll. Man muss kein Hellseher sein, um dieser Band eine glänzende Zukunft vorauszusagen.

Die anfängliche Inspiration für UNITY lässt sich nicht auf ein bestimmtes Datum festlegen, sondern war offenbar ein längerer und zunehmend spürbarer Prozess. “Während vieler Gigs und unzähliger Stunden im Proberaum entdeckten Michael und ich, dass wir auf der gleichen Wellenlänge sind, sowohl auf persönlicher als auch auf musikalischer Ebene. So kamen wir auf die Idee, den Teil unserer Kreativität, der über Gamma Ray hinausgeht, in einer weiteren Band zu bündeln”, erklärt Richter. Michael Ehré fügt hinzu: “Unsere künstlerischen Ideen sind einerseits so ähnlich, dass wir meistens auf einen gemeinsamen Nenner kommen, andererseits sind sie aber auch unterschiedlich genug, um ein abwechslungsreiches Album zu gewährleisten, das keine Sekunde langweilig klingt. Zumal diese Band aus sechs erstklassigen Songwritern besteht.”

Das Debüt von UNITY wurde von den Musikern selbst produziert, größtenteils in Ehrés eigenem B Castle Studio, und wurde 2017 veröffentlicht, gefolgt von drei Alben: RISE (2018), PRIDE (2020) und THE DEVIL YOU KNOW – LIVE (2021).

Im September 2022 gaben The Unity Tobias “Eggi” Exxel (Edguy) als neues Mitglied bekannt, der Jogi Sweers am Bass ersetzt. “Ich freue mich sehr, Teil einer der musikalisch stärksten und live mitreißendsten europäischen Metalbands zu sein”, erklärt Exxel, der zusammen mit Richter, Ehré, Sänger Gianba Manenti, Gitarrist Stef E und Keyboarder Sascha Onnen ein großartiges Metal-Six-Pack bildet.

Dass Tobias Exxel perfekt in das Bandgefüge passt, wurde bei The Unity-Konzerten als Special Guest während der Rhapsody Of Fire-Tour und aktuell bei einer sensationellen Show auf dem ‘Rock Castle’-Festival in Tschechien mehr als deutlich. “Nach einigen fantastischen Shows, bei denen Eggi uns kurzfristig ausgeholfen hat, ist dies das Ergebnis einer natürlichen Entwicklung”, sind sich alle Beteiligten einig. “Es hat einfach von der ersten Sekunde an geklappt! Zusammen mit Eggi können unsere Fans sicher sein, dass wir noch viele Überraschungen in petto haben.”

When haunting songs at the interface between hard rock and melodic metal meet the excellent musical skills and vast experience of all the musicians involved, a brilliant result is inevitable. UNITY are a prime example of this, with all musical parameters pointing to an outstanding act with a promising future. After all, UNITY is the new group formed by Gamma Ray members Michael Ehré (drums) and Henjo Richter (guitar). Richter has been part of the Hamburg power metallers for around twenty years, while Ehré – before joining Gamma Ray in 2012 – has already played with renowned bands such as Firewind, Uli Jon Roth and Unisonic, to name but a few. UNITY have been working flat out for almost 18 months on their first album, which is due for release on Steamhammer/SPV in spring 2017. You don’t have to be clairvoyant to predict a bright future for this band.

The initial inspiration for UNITY cannot be pinpointed to a specific date, but was clearly a longer and increasingly tangible process. ‘During many gigs and countless hours in the rehearsal room, Michael and I discovered that we were on the same wavelength, both on a personal and musical level. So we came up with the idea of bundling the part of our creativity that goes beyond Gamma Ray into another band,’ explains Richter. Michael Ehré adds: ‘On the one hand, our artistic ideas are so similar that we usually find a common denominator, but on the other hand they are also different enough to ensure a varied album that doesn’t sound boring for a second. Especially as this band consists of six first-class songwriters.’

UNITY’s debut was produced by the musicians themselves, mostly in Ehré’s own B Castle Studio, and was released in 2017, followed by three albums: RISE (2018), PRIDE (2020) and THE DEVIL YOU KNOW – LIVE (2021).

In September 2022, The Unity announced Tobias ‘Eggi’ Exxel (Edguy) as a new member, replacing Jogi Sweers on bass. ‘I’m very happy to be part of one of the musically strongest and most exciting live European metal bands,’ explains Exxel, who forms a great metal six-pack together with Richter, Ehré, singer Gianba Manenti, guitarist Stef E and keyboardist Sascha Onnen.

The fact that Tobias Exxel fits perfectly into the band structure became more than clear at The Unity concerts as a special guest during the Rhapsody Of Fire tour and recently at a sensational show at the ‘Rock Castle’ festival in the Czech Republic. ‘After some fantastic shows where Eggi helped us out at short notice, this is the result of a natural progression,’ everyone involved agrees. ‘It just worked from the very first second! Together with Eggi, our fans can be sure that we still have many surprises up our sleeves.’
